    Description

    Design Your Own Symmetrical Spinnaker!
Standard Size Symmetrical Spinnaker, sizes 1 to 9
(Sizes 10 to 18 as well as asymmetrical spinnakers are available in our other listings; asymmetrical spinnakers are shown here only to illustrate pattern variations)
Priced by square meter, shipping included
Please read entire listing before ordering!
These Standard Size Symmetrical Spinnakers sizes 1 to 9 will be made with Contender Nylite 90 (48 grams/m2 or 1.12 ounces/sailmaker’s yard).
    No offers, please.
    No substitutions, please.
Pricing and sizes in this listing are non-negotiable.
While we can and do make custom-sized spinnakers and Code Zeros in any of a number of materials, that is NOT what is being offered here. Designing and making a custom-sized spinnaker is a more complex undertaking than the eBay format allows.
“Standard Size means” that the patterns are already drawn and programmed. Cloth weights are those most common for general use or cruising spinnakers of the given size, and the pricing takes into consideration the differing costs of the two materials offered: unlike upwind sail Dacrons, spinnaker Nylon prices increase as weights get lighter. It takes a much more time on a loom to make the lighter Nylons. The Nylite 90 is more costly than the heavier Maxilite 150 used in the larger Standard Size sails. In addition, some savings of scale has been factored into the price of the larger spinnakers.
So again, no substitutions please, and no variations other than choice of the colors we offer. Use the dimensions given.
    Non-conforming orders will be voided.
Your spinnaker will include a standard sail bag. Launch bags or snuffer sleeves are available at additional cost in our other listings and must be ordered at the same time as your spinnaker to ship free. (Use the eBay Cart feature, please!) Otherwise, standard shipping rates for bags and snuffers apply.
    How to Measure
You can refer to published specifications for boats to get measurements, but most sail makers prefer that you get measurements directly from your boat. Builders and previous owners sometimes make changes without telling anyone. You can get a 100’ cloth tape measure at of the large lumber and appliance stores or on line and run it up a halyard for workable I and P measurements.
Please be aware that the spinnakers offered in this listing are for cruising or casual racing. Serious racers will want sails made with cloths or laminates suited to racing and designed for an exact fit that maximizes sail area, fills a niche in their sail inventory, or meets other key performance criteria. While we can and do make spinnakers and Code Zero sails to custom specifications, and out of many varied materials, including top-shelf racing Nylons and laminates, we cannot offer that sort sail design and fabrication service through a listing here.
If you nevertheless intend to use this spinnaker for racing, you should check your class rules. Many one-design classes have strict rules about spinnaker size and shape. If you race in PHRF fleets, the I.O.R. rule probably applies: your luff can be no greater than 95% of the square root of 2I = 2J, and the width (girth) of the sail can nowhere exceed 1.8J.*
The widest part of symmetrical spinnakers is typically the half width, or mid-girth line. The foot of a symmetrical spinnaker will typically be in the 1.6J to 1.8J range.
    * “I” is the measurement along the front of the mast from the top of the spinnaker sheave to the deck sheer line (where the deck would be were there no cabin). “J” is the measurement along the deck from the headstay to the front of the mast. “I”, “J”, and the headstay thus are the three sides of the foretriangle.
You might possibly be able to fly a larger spinnaker on your boat when racing, but you would incur a time penalty. For more casual use, the rule of thumb is that your luff should be about your “I” measurement. The curvature of the set sail will raise the tack to pole height.
Cruising asymmetrical spinnakers do not necessarily need to tack to a sprit or spinnaker pole. Instead you can attach the tack to a collar that wraps around the furled headsail on the headstay. The luff of a cruising asym should not exceed “I.” Cruisers who want to minimize visual obstruction can use this trick: hoist a cloth tape measure all the way on the spinnaker halyard. Walk your end out to the bow and pull the tape taught, with your hand where you want the tack to be. Take that reading – from halyard block to hand -- and add 3% (multiply by 1.03). The 3% accounts for luff curvature and should put your tack about where you want it. The leech will be about 90% the luff length.
    How to Order
    1. Please refer to the chart below to select your Standard Spinnaker Size based on luff, foot, and area measurements suitable for your boat.
    2. Enter the area into the quantity field in
    square meters
    (
    m2
, highlighted in red) and place your order for the spinnaker.
If you are adding a launch bag and/or snuffer (sock) to your order
, please put both your spinnaker and launch bag or snuffer (from the appropriate listing) in an
    eBay cart
prior to purchase so that they are ordered at the same time and thereby avoid a shipping charge for the launch bag and/or snuffer. Refer to the directions in the launch bag or snuffer listings to help you choose the correct size launch bag or snuffer.
    3. Immediately notify us in eBay Messaging of your pattern (Star 1, Star 2, or Bar) and color choices for each lettered section (sections A, B, C, D, E for Star patterns
    or
sections 1, 2 ,3, and 4 for a Bar pattern). Please note that you may use 1, 2, or 3 colors but no more than 3.

Dimensions smaller than a foot are shown are in tenths and hundredths of a foot rather than in inches for greater accuracy and ease of reference.
    ·
For larger Standard Size Symmetrical Spinnakers, or our two ranges of Standard Size Asymmetrical Spinnakers, please refer to our other listings.
Please note that the patterns shown in the illustrations above are approximations: the size and cut of panels can vary somewhat on sails of different sizes.
Also, please note that the color choices that you see above are photos displayed on a computer screen, so the actual fabric colors might deviate from those values to some extent. The Contender Sailcloth web site says the following regarding their spinnaker cloth colors:
    ·
The color samples on display are non-binding. Depending on screen and printer settings, display may deviate from original to differing extent.
    ·
Please note that fluorescent colors are not colourfast [sic]. They fade faster than regular colors as a result of exposure to sunlight. These dyes also tend to weaken the cloth and make it less tear-resistant. Contender therefore does not recommend the use of fluorescent colors for cruising spinnakers.
    About Loong Sails
Our lofts are in Shenzen City, China, just outside Hong Kong. Your spinnaker will ship from one of our lofts.
I am Chris Cole, the US rep for Loong Sails. My office is in Connecticut, USA.
Our lofts make sails for other sail makers whom I not permitted to name but whom you would know. They just put their labels on our sails. We also sell to the public.
The sails we make as good in design and construction as anything any loft would make for you (or have us make for you at a higher cost). You are in essence buying directly from the loft at Asian prices and bypassing North American or European management and marketing costs.
Loong uses state-of-the-art design and production equipment and only the best materials and hardware imported from Europe and the USA. We do not substitute: you get what we say you are getting.
Also, because our sails are made exclusively with European and the American cloth and hardware, no tariffs apply. The country of origin is considered that in which the cloth was woven.

Please check my feedback and buy with confidence.
The Buyer will please contact me within three (3) days of winning and pay within seven (7) days.
Because this is a large item made to order, production and preparation for shipment might take several weeks.
Spinnakers will ship free from Hong Kong to anywhere in the world, as specified above, the only exceptions possibly being a few remote islands. Please ask for a shipping quote if you know shipment will be to an unusually difficult location.
Transit time is typically about a week, though some locations may take longer. Shipment might also be delayed by quarantine restrictions or personnel shortages at shipping companies caused by said restrictions.
Scammers will not be tolerated. Please don't waste my time or yours. I know all the scams, won't fall for them, and will report you immediately to eBay and the FBI.
Your bid is a commitment. Please be considerate of sellers' time and money, both of which are lost if you do not follow through.
    Thank you for your interest!
