    Description

    Here is a fabulous looking copy of the Great Snettisham torc in Gold Plated brass.  Worn by Celts, Romans, legionary as jewelry or as well as Celtic Chieftain.
    Known as the 'Snettisham Great Torc', this neck-ring was discovered in 1950 in a field near the village of Snettisham in Norfolk. Later, many hoards of Iron Age torcs were found at this site. This torc is one of the most elaborate golden objects from the ancient world but this copy is in brass for cost reasons.  Torcs were given to soldiers for bravery and valor after a battle.  Mostly officers in the time of the Empire.  Although many torc's were given in twos to work better on a phalera harness, a single one could also be given as Roman grave stelae show.  A Roman officers grave was found in France that had a single torc in it.  It was most worn like a necklace as illustrated in the photograph of a Roman Officer.
